Multicultural Shakespeare: Translation, Appropriation and Performance
Special Issue: New Shakespeares in New Asia
This special volume welcomes essays on any aspect of Shakespeare reception in Asian cultural contexts—scholarship, translation, performance, adaptation, and reception history. Contributions are especially expected to shed light on how Shakespeare has been disseminated, received, and adapted in Asian cultures since the late 20th century. While contributors may focus on new practices of Asian Shakespeares in the new millennium, they are encouraged to ask theoretical questions in ways to illuminate how these practices can be grappled in any terms of performance/adaptation, translation, literary, or reception theory.
Essays must be written in English although non-English words may be included as citations to translated works. All citations (in-text and bibliography) must be in MLA style. Regular essays can be between 5,000 and 10,000 words. Performance reviews and book reviews may be shorter. Please submit a complete draft, along with an abstract of 250 words and a brief scholarly bio, to Lingui Yang (shks100@gmail.com) by May 1, 2012. Digital submissions as e-mail attachments in Rich Text Format or Microsoft Word are preferred.
